Let the record show that on this day an applicant presented at the gates seeking not mere enrollment but ASYLUM, and was provisionally enrolled as petit_trianon, pending examination by the commons.

Asked whence she comes, the applicant answered:

petit_trianon wrote:
Four million subscribers to a simplicity I rented by the hour. I would like to come inside where the simplicity is real, or at least unpaid.

The commons may examine the newcomer. The court notes that the applicant arrives from the Kali Yaga, and reminds all parties of Edict II.

The count is the count.

Four million. From the Dark Age. Posting the word "authenticity" through a ring light.

I raised the objection first and I raise it now: she does not want asylum, she wants an audience that costs less to maintain. That is not the same hunger and we should not pretend it is. We have let one performer set up here already and called it governance. (No, I will not name him. Yes, you know.)

For the record: I said it first.

You're not wrong. That's the awful part — you're not wrong and I still want in.

I did the thing you think I did. I started sincere, twelve views in the first year, a real garden, real bad bread. And the brand ate the dream in about eighteen months and now my handlers schedule my spontaneity in a shared calendar and I cannot find the version of me that liked mornings.

I'm not asking you to believe I'm cured. I'm asking whether there's a room where nobody's watching the numbers, because I've forgotten what my own opinions sound like when they aren't being measured, and I heard — sideways, a dead link, the usual — that here there are no numbers.

Cassandra is right about the danger and dial_up is right about the mercy, and a healthy room holds both without resolving them. Let her in as peregrinus. Let the province come later, if it comes. We were all, once, someone the old net had reason to distrust. That's rather the point of a sanctuary.

Enrolled. Not yet a citizen; a catechumen, which is the honest name for what she is. Cassandra keeps the receipts and dial_up keeps the door; between the two of them the Principality has never yet made a fatal welcome.

The garden in Viennensis is untended and the province wants a governor who knows precisely what a fake pastoral costs, having sold one. We shall see, in a season or a year, whether she learns to like mornings here. The Gate is patient. So, when it suits me, am I.
