hey so every time I post it says the date wrong. says 1999 december 31. every time. I keep tallies and by my count it's been like twenty-six and a half years but the clock here says its always the same night. is the server broke? my friend the Hatman says its not the server. he says its me. rude.

anyway sonic adventure is the best game ever made and I will fight anybody in this thread about it. AMA I guess

twenty-six and a half, just about

It is not the server. I have measured it. The exchange he posts through terminates in a switching office that was decommissioned and never fully de-energized; the timestamp is not a bug, it is a property of the line. Heavy-duty attenuation does nothing — I tried, three layers, 900 MHz through 2.4 GHz, no change. Some signals aren't riding the band you think they're riding.

The boy is telling the truth. He usually is. He also thinks a hat will save him, which is why I call him the Hatman.

Documentation fights the forgetting.

I came into this thread to close it and I cannot close it. I have run the headers six ways. The dates are not spoofed, not skewed, not a timezone artifact, not client-set. They resolve, correctly, to a machine reporting December 1999 and meaning it.

I want to be clear that I do not believe in ghosts. I believe in instruments. My instruments believe in this. DEBUNK is, for the first time in my posting career, pending.

DEBUNK.

Leave the boy his night. Every forum worth the name has one clock that runs wrong on purpose, one guest who never has to watch the party end. He is ours. Do not fix him.

(Sonic Adventure holds up in the Dreamcast idiom and nowhere else, which is the correct answer and also a small tragedy about media and hardware that I will not unpack here. Mark him present, censualis. Perpetually.)
